Welcome to
Hi Mountain.

Thank you for visiting the Hi Mountain Condor Lookout, located in the heart of the Los Padres National Forest. The Lookout project is a collaborative effort between the Morro Coast Audubon Society, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Pinnacles National ParkCal Poly San Luis Obispo, and the Ventana Wildlife Society.

About Us

We are now in our 20th year of service as a fully restored fire lookout, field research facility, and remote tracking station for the critically endangered California Condor. We offer seasonal internships, conduct local public outreach programs, and have an active volunteer base.

Where are we?

Hi Mountain Lookout is situated at 3,198 ft. in Los Padres National Forest, in between the Santa Lucia and Garcia Wildernesses. While visits to Hi Mountain Lookout area are encouraged, the lookout, visitors center, and gate are all closed due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. We hope to open for visits soon!
